PERFORMING ENSEMBLES

Fine Arts in Rockbridge (FAIR) is committed to providing opportunities for all persons in the Rockbridge area to pursue their interests and develop their talents in the arts through quality educational and performance opportunities. To that end, we proudly support the following performing ensembles:

Rockbridge Symphony

The Rockbridge Symphony, under the direction of Mark Taylor, is a 40+ member community orchestra comprised of youth and adults from the Rockbridge area and surrounding counties. All players are invited to come play in the Rockbridge Symphony. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings at Maury River Middle School beginning from 7-9 pm. Rockbridge Area Youth Strings (RAYS)

The Rockbridge Area Youth Strings offers students at local elementary and middle schools an opportunity to receive instruction on violin or cello from local music professionals. Halestone Dance Studio

Halestone Dance Studio provides innovative dance education to nurture the creative development of all ages and abilities. Whether you are in pre-school, high-school or an adult, a new student of movement, or a seasoned dancer, Halestone offers an array of opportunities–classical ballet, contemporary dance, tap, jazz, hip hop, choreographic theory and improvisation, creative movement and kinder ballet. Rockbridge Ballet

The Rockbridge Ballet is a leading dance company in the state of Virginia, with over 25 years artistic expertise in the community. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Jessica Martin, the Rockbridge Ballet teaches professional levels of movement and choreography in ballet, tap, jazz, modern and a variety of other classical dance forms.  The Rockbridge Ballet is a proud affiliate member of FAIR. Discovery Heights Children’s Museum

Discovery Heights Children’s Museum plans to provide the children of Lexington, Rockbridge County and surrounding areas with an indoor location for imaginative play experiences as well as creating spaces dedicated to science, technology, engineering, art, math, music, and theater.  We envision a physically and intellectually stimulating atmosphere where children are encouraged to learn and explore the world around them through hands-on exhibits that foster creativity, experimentation, camaraderie, thoughtfulness and invention.  To find out more about Discovery Heights Children’s Museum, visit their website at www.discoveryheights.org or their Facebook page: Discovery Heights Children’s Museum.

OTHER PROGRAMS

Instrument Loan Program

FAIR lends out a set of 17 world drums and a set of 13 barred instruments to area schools on a rotational basis. This service of FAIR helps to promote quality music education and active, hands-on learning for students throughout the Rockbridge area.
