Dates:  July 10-28, 2017

Venue:  Lexington Presbyterian Church

From the Director:

I was raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan, a mid-sized city in southwest Michigan with a robust youth arts culture. My parents understood the importance of arts education, and I grew up attending summer arts camps. I am thrilled to direct Summer FAIR and in doing so, to have the chance to pass on my fire for the love of fine arts to the youth of Rockbridge.

The overarching theme of Summer FAIR 2017 is go deeper. In our age of instant-everything and constant distractions, art-making challenges us to push away the noise and to focus on something: a process, a task, an action that requires an extended attention span. As we go deeper into a project, new possibilities reveal themselves, we learn more of what we are capable of, and our enjoyment of the process is enriched. By making go deeper the catch phrase of Summer FAIR this year, I hope to plant the seed in the minds of our students that regardless of whether they are beginners in something or very advanced, they can always push aside distractions and go a little further.

It is my distinct privilege to introduce the staff of Summer FAIR 2017. Please click on their names below to check out their profiles and learn more about them. In addition to providing biographies, each staff member has answered a question I posed to them: “What does go deeper mean to you, and how will you apply this in your teaching at Summer FAIR?”

I am really looking forward to seeing all the amazing things our kids will create this year at Summer FAIR. See you there!

-Jonathan
